Men's and Senior Men's Competition Rules
Abandonment of Competitions
Where a competition is subject to adverse weather conditions then after a course inspection the Proshop will inform one of the HCC of the on course conditions so a decision can be made whether to suspend play or not. The first point of contact will be the Golf Secretary followed by the relevant Captain then Vice Captain of the competition(s) involved. If no committee members are available then the Proshop should make the decision on the HCC's behalf and inform the secretary via email of the decision including the time that play was suspended.
Players must then comply with rule 5.7a and 5.7b and they should be aware of The Club Company policy on lightning whereby no siren/alarm will be sounded as detailed on the reverse of the scorecard. If in doubt as to whether play has been suspended or to report the part of the course they are on as unplayable they should contact the Proshop on 01299405163.
If members of a tee group consider the course has become unplayable and the Proshop cannot be contacted, then the group may only suspend play if all participants in that group agree. The golf secretary must then be advised as soon as possible via email at whartonparkgolf@gmail.com If unanimous agreement is not met then play must continue unless it is dangerous to do so.
If play is only suspended for a period of up to one hour then play can resume once conditions allow.
If play resumes then players must comply with rule 5.7c
If play cannot be resumed within 1 hour then further play in the competition will be abandoned and the following will apply.
If an 18 hole competition is abandoned due to weather conditions the result will stand if 90% or more of all entrants have completed their rounds, otherwise the competition will be cancelled and all entry fees refunded.
Should the result of a competition stand and there are any entrants who were unable to complete the competition due to weather conditions making the course unplayable then their individual entry will be cancelled and fees refunded.
Where a player has already started their round but cannot finish it due to the competition being abandoned they must complete and upload their score card, marking the holes not played as "NS" and annotated "Play abandoned due to weather conditions". Where sufficient holes have been completed by the player then the competition entry will be converted to a General Play round by the golf secretary.
For 2 day 36 hole competitions such as The Wharton Park Cup and the Men's and Ladies Club Championships if play is abandoned on day 1 then the competition will be rescheduled in its entirety and the above criteria for 18 hole competitions will apply. If play is abandoned on day 2 then the original day one scores will still count towards the overall result, the day 2 scores will be cancelled or converted to general play cards as above and day 2 of the competition will be rearranged and the players involved notified of the new date and their tee time accordingly.
